hey guys so this weekend I have another problem with my 77 f2504x4 some times not always as Im driving my front end wobbles violently for a few seconds then stops! it actually feels like Im driving on an egg shaped tire this is on the left side right now. can anyone tell me where to start diagnosing this problem? im worried my tire might fall off as im driving although it feels like its on there solid so Im wondering if shocks could cause this weird wobbling? also the truck has 40"tires on it and a lift that the previouse owner installed that I know nothing about, I think he just blocked up the front leaf springs. I appreciate any and all suggestions on this matter, thank you!
From what i have read on this site, blocks in front is a BIG no no. I would start by making sure everything is tight. Especially front U bolts. I have heard of the death wobble and i think that is related to steering issues. Hope this helps some.
I think it might have something to do with a steering issue, in fact I think it might be "death wobble"! everything is pretty damn tight except for the steering shaft. it is very loose and my steering has a ton of play in it Im thinking I might need a new rag joint and steering shaft? So does anyone know anything about this death wobble and how to stop it? thanks for the help
Sorry, all i have heard is that you do not want to mess with the adjustment screw to tighten the steering on the power steering box, it can lock up and not return the steering when you are in the middle of a turn. Very bad outcome.
Like 78longbed said FRONT BLOCKS ARE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. When you drive the truck and steer it especially in a turn an unbelievable amount of force is exerted on the front u bolts.
Having the front blocks only magnifies the forces put on them. They can fail in a real bad way, they break and your front axle will go one way and the front end will go the other. Equalling a WRECK and you are along for the ride, and not a fun one either.
I would remove them ASAP, and get a proper lift (new springs) or put a cheap $80 add-a-leaf from lots of places. JC whit.....
Get under the truck and have a buddy turn the wheel back and forth a bit, without it running. Since your truck is a F250 4x4 it will have a 2 u-joints in the steering shaft,
no rag joint. Then move to the steering box, pitman arm, tie rods, then ball joints.
Ch wheel bearing and if it all tight and good, ck shock condition and steering stabilizer an last but least swap around tires, front to rear, might have a outa balance tire.
Remove them blocks, good way to kill yourself and maybe someone else. Here is a real good replacement steering shaft:
The Borgeson steering shaft is designed to stand up to the added stress of body lifts (another BAD idea) and over sized tires. The telescoping shaft features precision needle bearing U-joints to give your vehicle tighter more responsive steering. Best of all it installs easily with basic hand tools. Its designed for the 1970-79 Ford full size pickups
Mfr Part#: 970 $200 ish shop around
Its a little pricey, but I got one and its a easy swap and better than factory IMO. In all this did you understand REMOVE THEM FRONT BLOCKS!!!!!!
I got you on the front blocks! I actually want to return the truck to its original configuration and ditch the lift and large tires do you know what the largest tires I can put on the 77 f250 4x4 are withought modifying it? I believe the original tire size was something like 32 inches? thanks

I've got 33"s on my stock '76 F100 4x4 with no rub issues, I really think I could get 35"s on it no problem, maybe not but there is a good bit of room in there.
I know that on a LOT of vehicles if you drive them over 55 and its starts to shake like crazy then you have bad shocks but I don't know about a vehicle with front leaf springs.
Does anyone know what the ball joint looking thing is at the end of the pitman arm? Mine looks loose and the only way I know to replace it is with a whole new pitman arm. Can anyone tell me if there is a part (and what its called) I can replace it with? I hate to spend 50 bucks when the pitman arm is fine just the ball joint at the end is going bad.
