I was just wondering how far the average person here comutes to work. My comute is currently 65 miles one way (mon-wed) and 35 miles one way (thur & fri)
Lets see now ......... my house to job #1 = 28 miles. job #1 to job #2 = 8 miles(mondays) Job #1 to job #3 = 34 miles(tuesday-friday) No wonder I have almost 18000 miles in 1 year.
I have to drive about 13 miles to get to the parking lot at the airport...park my truck...walk about a quarter mile to get to the train station...exit the train after about 15 minutes...go through security...walk about 5 minutes to get to the shuttle bus...ride the bus for 5 minutes, and then I get to go to work!
1 & 1/2 mile walk to the train station...40 mile train ride to downtown Chicago..8 block walk to work...all told it takes me 1 & 1/2 hours one way to get to work...and of course the reverse to get home in the evening. Not complaining though..beats the alternatives..i.e. being unemployeed...or having to drive to work.

My 35 mile ride in the mornings is about 40 minutes, with plenty of company on the freeway, but mostly not in my way. Lots of time to meditate, plan my day, etc.
On the way home, it's a little different. First, although I like my work, I have been full-time employed, without a break, for 40 years, so quitting time is like a breath of fresh air now. So when I leave the office in the afternoon, I fight my way through the 35 miles of traffic- takes about an hour, and then arrive at my home which is hidden in the trees on a couple of acres of quiet.
It's worth the trip!
(Even if it costs me $10 a day for gasoline).
I feal sorry for all yall. I travel about 7 miles to the fire station(that i vol. at) and less than 1 mile to the papa Johns that i work at. but you wages are alot higher so its prolly worth it.
I walk to work. Just across the street. Fire hall that i volunteer at is next door to work.
Ironic part is that if i do end u p with a vehicle at work, its farther to walk to the parking lot to retrieve the truck than it is to walk home. And work can be waaay too close some days!
heheh i guess i dont think i have it soo bad enymore, i drive 50 miles round trip to school and back along with 5 miles or so to work, then the big drive that i take all the time is to duval and back witch is around 60 miles or so
I drive about 25 miles to get to work. Starts out on a dirt road and progresses to downtown lincoln. Takes me about 35 minutes to get to work if i leave at 6:30. I take my time and enjoy the drive. On my way home, i tend to go a bit faster, escaping the rat race, seeking my one lane dirt road leading to my house in the country.
I walk 50 yards to my office on the opposite end of my property. No fuel, no traffic jams, no aggravation. Walk back to house for home-made lunch, and enjoy a view of the woods all around me.
I have all kinds of birds, Hawks, Owls, Turkeys, Pheasants, Quail, Fox, Deer, and other wildlife for company. It is a tough life but someone has to live it.
