Engine Fan Help

Hello all, looking for some advice on what to do concerning a constantly running engine fan. After driving through a sandy mud trail, my radiator possibly took on some sand resulting in the engine fan problem. After researching on this site I decided to try unplugging the fan, but it continues to run and my understanding is that this implies that the unit is bad. I'm considering pulling radiator to try cleaning it and if the fan is bad change it. This will be my first time working on my own 6.0 PSD now that I have 80,000 miles. Can you help please ????

No matter what the base problem is, if your cooling system took a blast of wet sand, I would clean it. Even if not plugging the fins it could prove to be corrosive. Start from there.

Not to bad drain it take the hoses off take the shroud off the bottom it is a bit of a pain but it will pop out take the two hold downs off the top and it should slide out.

If you searched enough you might have found my couple of posts about running a weatherfront in summer (didn't realise they were weather fronts) and how the fan was driving me crazy, took them off, and it isn't hardly noticeable any more. So if the rad or something in the stack is plugged up, it can make the fan come on excessively.

Haven't had mine out but they are more than likely tranny cooling lines.

I had the same thing. After pulling a hard grade and high temps my fan kicked in but would not disingage after temps came down. I unplugged it but it still kept running. After an hour and a half it finally quit. This happened a few more times with it taking longer to disingage each time. Had to replace the fan clutch. Check out the parts guy on this site if you have to do the same. He was $220.00 cheaper than my dealer for the fan clutch.

Tranny COOLER. It's transmission fluid. If it needs topping up, make sure to use the right fluid, Mercon SP

yes... you should look at all the flat sided pullies. that would include the water pump pully and the belt tensioner.
