Timing

With all the stuff I read on doin head gaskets, I have never seen anyone describe how to time these motors. Is there a particular reason why noone goes into that detail? I am thinkin of tacklin this myself (Head studs and Gaskets and EGR delete kit) but cant find anything on timing the 6oh!

You can't find anything, because you don't have to do anything with the timing.
The cam is in the block, it's gear driven, and by doing HG job, you won't even see the CAM , nor the gears....

Well that makes it easier for me to understand! lol I/we have always timed everything (I guess you dont really need too) after a head job, but I never worked on a PSD. My dad was always a double check type of fella, So I guess that rubs off on me alot!

ya as stated the cam and crank or gear driven off the back of the engine. the pcm handles all the fuel timing needs from the cmp,ckp signals.

Thanks again guys! It has been awhile since I was into an engine! After thinkin about it a little while, I dont understand why My dad would rip more apart than needed. Maybe it was just a precaution, or maybe he figured He just spent money on one thing, so to go ahead and check others while he was in there. Again thanks and sorry for MY brainfart.

Cheezit,
Did you stud your 6oh or did you stud your 6oh at the garage you work @?

Cool Pictures! That Whitestuff will be on the ground When/If I ever get the money/time (a 14mnth old and a 3wk old) to get er done. I love this truck but am wondering if worrying about it is worth it. This thing makes me cringe if it takes a second longer to start, or when the turbo farts, or..............all I think is here we go with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I was figurin a week by the time I get the heads redone. Unless I buy remans and than I was still figuring 3 or 4 days if I bust my a$$. Is it alot easier to pull engine, or do it while in truck by jackin tranny up and massagin the firewall a little to get back bolts out and studs in! What Delete do you (general consensus) recommend?

that was the sinsiter kit. it worked fine for me. dont know about all the others out there.

no need to mess with the trans or firewall to get the rear bolt out. remove the bolt with the head. very simple that way.

Cool Thanks alot for imfo and help! I was thinkin about buyin a whole kit kit (new Ford oil cooler, Sinister delete, All gaskets, new turbo bolts and O rings and Black Onyx HG's?) I will be callin on FTE for help with my F*** ups. I have a Banks 6 gun with PDA (bought for $200) that will need to go for sale, while I try to figure out which tuner I want to replace it with! I think I need 1 that will clear the egr codes.
