Truck is an 89 F250 4x4, 351w, ZF5speed. Problem is that this morning the beast wouldn't fire. Turn the key and would only get one click. Not a problem I thought so i jumped out to jump the soleniod. Nothing happened. That struck me as odd because I didn't even get the click I had before. Being that I was already running late, I decided I would just pop the clutch and get her going. So I get the truck running down the hill I park on, jump in, pop the clutch and it doesn't fire. Instead what happens is the truck shakes everytime I let the clutch out. Not what I wanted and now I'm at the bottom of the hill. So, I fire up another truck and head off. Now I'm just waiting to get home to figure this out. What does it sound like my problem is?
Well, it's fixed. At least for now. Still don't know what the heck was happening. Got home and started checking over things. Had a spare starter soleniod that I swapped in and still the same problem. Checked all my wires and cables with a DVOM and everything checked out. Positive wire was iffy so I changed that out. Still same. Started to suspect the starter pinion was locked into the flywheel or that somehow the engine got locked up ( although I doubted it ). Off with the starter and everything looks good. So now I take the starter up to get it tested at autozone. Heard a couple hard clicks and then it spun. Now I'm stressing about what it is. Get home and re-install the starter and she fires right up and purs like a kitten. I checked to see if it would fire every time I did something and nothing changed anything. So, I have no clue as to what happened and if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
