Oil Pressure

I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge that I have tapped into the oil Filter cap. When I start the engine cold it will read around 90 psi and when warm around 60 psi, but when it is up to operating temp it will only read around 20 psi at idle and then back up to 60 if you give it any gas at all. My question is is this a good place to hook a mechanical oil pressure gauge to and if so are those reading correct?

Feed line mounted on top of the cap and being that erratic, chances are there is air compressing in the line giving you false readings.

I do not see any air in the line. Is the top of the oil filter cap a good place to read oil pressure and is the readings I am getting sound right?
