What is it about 4wd Transmissions that they don't work for a 2wd truck? What, if anything, can be done to them to make them work?
For instance, I've heard something about putting a drum e-brake on them. Can anyone elaborate on this?
Or, would it be possible to take the shaft out of a 2wd C6, and put it onto a 4wd C6? Is that the issue? The shaft?
I have a 2wd C6 for a big block. I also have a 4wd C6 for a diesel 6.9l. I'd like to put the diesel one onto my diesel. But, it's 2wd. I don't really want to install the transfer case and have it do nothing but eat up space and power.
The output shaft is different. A 4wd trans can be swapped to use in 2wd, by changing the output shaft and adding the tailshaft housing for 2wd. Complete trans disassembly is required to swap the output shaft, so might as well rebuild the trans while it's apart.
Thanks. I was hoping that the shaft could be swapped. There is a shop that'll do the job for $300. Not terrible, considering it'd be rebuilt and ready to go.
