Shudder

My 93 Explorer has developed kind of an odd habit. When it has gotten fully warmed up and then been shut off and allowed to cool for around 30 minutes, when you start it up again it has a shudder. The tach jumps up and down, and it shudders like a cylinder is missing or not getting fuel or something. So I cleaned the MAF, idle speed motor, and throttle body really well and it didn't do anything for the problem. So I'm stumped. There's no check engine light on and it runs great, the shudder only lasts for 15 seconds tops when it happens but it is really noticeable. So I'm guessing at going at looking at the fuel pressure next or maybe the thermal sensors? Any help or past experiences would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

I've sometimes seen trouble at warm start attributed to a leaking injector. That cylinder can't fire until the excess fuel gets purged out. Your fuel pressure test should show a problem like this. At one point in the test, you'll let it sit for 3-5 minutes and see if the pressure drops off.

I have this problem with my 92 ex as well. I have yet to figure it out. I have done all the things that you mentioned AdamTN. I even checked the fuel pressure and checked it for about an hour with no pressure loss, however after leaving the truck overnight the fuel pump winds out to build pressure up in the fuel system. I don't think this is the problem. I have posted on this once before and no one else seems to have had this problem because there was never a reply.

Well I dropped it off at the shop and stuck around for a few minutes. But the guy there thinks that this problem is from the fuel pressure regulator, hopefully I'll know soon. I'll keep you posted and Go Canada!!!

That is kind of what I thought was wrong with mine, but never fixed it because once I started driving her she would sputter and cough then I would just pin it for about 100 feet and it would run just fine.

Actually it didn't turn out to be the fuel pressure regulator, if their diagnosis is correct. They replaced the Intake Air Control servo, saying the resistance from the sensor war incorrect. It hasn't had a shudder yet so I'll just have to wait and see if that was it.
