I'm looking for a dipstick
(sigh) Open your peepers and take another look in the parts catalog, kiddo....you will see that......There are three different engine oil dipsticks for (I assume), a 1965 F100/250 240. It depends on whether the truck has 2WD or 4WD, which oil pan capacity it has (5 or 6 quarts).
65_Guy: Please...when asking questions, list ALL the pertinent details.

number on it.Uh huh...
'C5' are the first two digits of the ID engineering number's 4 digit prefix. It's not an actual Ford part number, and there are FIVE different 240/300 "C5" dipsticks. The three above, another for the P Series Parcel Delivery, another for the C Series Tilt Cab.
And...there are two more 'C5' dipsticks, one for 1965/66 F100/350 352's and another for 1965/67 Galaxie/LTD 352/390's.
If you post the entire ID engineering number, I'll give you its Ford part number.
There are no Ford part numbers marked on any parts after 1956, just ID engineering or casting numbers.

The Chilton's manual I have says the '65 240 2WD takes 6 qts. and the '66-'67 240 2WD takes 5 qts.
NumberDummy, this doesn't jive with your numbers. Thoughts? I imagine whatever book you have is better than mine, just curious why the difference in #'s. (So, from my end of the equation, I DID list all of the pertinent details. ;-)
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I don't know what matters to the OP or not since all he said was he needed a dipstick for a 65 240.
65 240 what? F100, F250 or? 2WD or 4WD? Heck, it might even be a 1965 Galaxie or LTD w/a 240.
I typed that jazz for everyone, not just for the OP. Now everyone that reads the post will know that there are three different dipsticks and what their applications, measurements and part numbers are.
65_Guy: A Chilton manual is not a Ford shop manual, neither is it the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog, where I typed most of the info from.
And...you still haven't listed all the pertinent details. So far all you've said is 1965 240 and I assume your reference to 2WD applies.
This is the 1961-1966 F100 and larger F-Series Trucks forum. So, for all we know, you could have an F100, F250, F350, F500, or F600, since all these trucks were available with the 240 I-6.
Since the parts catalog lists two different dipsticks for 1965 F100 2WD 240 I-6's, I have no idea which one is correct.
The difference is miniscule, fractions of an inch (see specs in post #4). Both dipsticks are obsolete.

I think there's another thread out there with questions about oil capacities. Anyone know the title off the top of their head? I may jaunt over there and spread the love.
And as a side note, looks like I need to get rid of the Chilton's manual and buy a real shop manual. It told me my engine took 6 qts. of oil and 19 qts. of 50/50 in the cooling system, whereas the owner's manual says 5qts. of oil and 14qts of 50/50 in the cooling system. Geez, if the Chilton's is that far off on these simple details, who knows how bad the "facts" are on more sensitive applications. Just sayin'!
