trans filters

Does my 2005 F-250 have an internal and external trans filter? Ford dealer says it only has the remote filter behind front bumper. Is that true? I see filter online that are internal. Just want to be sure this thing is getting proper maintenance. any help??

Internal filter is a large screen. If it gets stopped up you have much bigger problems to worry about. All you need is drain and fill the pan and change the external filter.

If you're going to drain the pan, you may as well inspect the internal filter. Also, I'd suggest letting a qualified dealer do a heated flush to get a FULL change of fluid.

The pan has a drain plug. The internal filter is considered a lifttime filter. The screen is about the same as the screen in your door on your house. If it has anything in it, a trans service will do you no good. But hey if you feel like dropping the pan to inspect it too see if your trans has serious internal hard part failure, go for it.
