So I'm new to all this but trying to learn. I have a 1968 F-250 with the 390. It currently has a 1965 Ford 4V intake and an Edelbrock Performer Carb (with adapter plate). What it is the correct style carb I should be running on it? Spreadbore or squarebore? I'm not trying to hot rod it or anything, just keep it as a solid work truck with good bottom end and midrange power.
well i put an edelbrock carb on with intake an its not a hot rod but thats been the best thing i did to the 390 and that was 14 years ago runs like a champ an theres lots of low end torque i cam pull a10,000 pound rv trailer no problem.
Now, which carb is it? The Performer (Q-Jet copy) or the AVS (the Carter AFB copy)? And what size/brand cam are you running? I was thinking of going with a 625-650CFM carb with a 272/272 cam. And I'm running a Dana 60 with a C-6 trans. I think the gears are the original gears which were 3.54 from the factory (according to the build codes).
its the edelbrock performer 600cfm manual choke carter avs style. the cam is stock one that came in the engine. edelbrock performer intake thats all i got on top
A 600 cfm manual choke Edelbrock is PN1405 and the electric choke version is PN1406. The FE Edelbrock Performer dual plane intake is PN 2105.
My FE inhales through the 1406/2105 combination with a 1-inch phenolic spacer and exhales through Hedman Hedders PN 89120, 2.5-inch tubing, and Moroso Spiral Flow mufflers. Works great.. the headers and exhaust really woke it up.
Thanks HIO Silver. I have the 1406 version. But, does Edelbrock make a kit or something to refit for the A/T Kickdown?
Yep. Summit has a kickdown kit for C6 and C4 trannies - PN 03-0043 and 03-0044 respectively. The kit consists of a throttle cable, bracket, linkage, and the kickdown cable.
