Does anyone know what if any problems would arise replacing a 1985 F-150 4x4, 8.8 inch rear end with a 1985 Bronco 8.8 inch rear end. It looks like a simply change out if the gear ratios are the same. Just want to check if any one has any comments
Just found some rebuild humor today while cleaning up the Bronco rear end. The donor Bronco was a 1985 and the transplant is a 1985 F150. I wanted to go with the Bronco dif since it could be a good chance it might be limited slip and had a sway bar. I got the id tag off both rear ends and ran the codes. The pickup had a Bronco rear end while the Bronco coded as a pickup rear end. What are the odds? And no I did not reverse the tags.
You might as well pop off the cover and check if it's lsd. It'll also give you a good chance to check the condition of the internals and a fluid change.

Absolutely right, no telling what that Bronco drove through before you nabbed the axle. Don't forget to add some limited slip additive when changing fluid (if indeed it is a limited slip diff).
