The dash pad on my '66 finally got to the point of no return. I was cleaning it, and every time a put a little pressure on it, new cracks would form. So, I bit the bullet and removed it. Turned out to be a LOT easier than I thought it was going to be. The paint underneath was also much nicer, and looks a ton better that the old, cracked dash. I do have a tip for anyone removing their dash pad: try "Sticker Shock" bumper sticker remover to get the old glue off the top of your painted dash. I used it, and it did a GREAT job...the glue turned into a rubbery texture, and then just rolled up and off when I wiped the dash with a cloth. Just sprayed iton, let it set a couple minutes and wiped. Most of the old glue came right off. I did have to use a plasctic scraper in a couple spots, but the whole process from unscrewing the first vent screw to putting the cap back on the container after waxing the newly revealed dash took me right at 3 1/2 hours. That was while talking on the phone, and doing a couple "Can you carry this for me?" jobs for the wife during the process.
I got it at one of the chain autocare stores....I believe it was AutoZone, but could have been Oreillys or Pep Boys. I bought it about 2 years ago to remove an old bumper sticker the previous owner had placed on my truck and had worn out.
OK cool! I will have to check thems out and see what I can find! I did the same thing you just did a couple weeks ago and that glue #@$%@ is driving me up a wall!!!!!
