Hey Everyone! - (Need help, 4x4, audio)
I just bought my first F250 two days ago!...its a 2001 XLT CrewCab 5.4 V8 4x4.
The truck had a few issues and while googling I stumbled on this forum. I've read a ton of great posts and have gotten a lot of good tips and advice.
Here are my questions:
1) I have a issue with my 4x4 (the light doesn't come on -- so its not engaging at the transfer case).
I read a couple posts regarding this issue and checked the following:
-Relays are good, vacuum lines are good, shift motor is good...i've yet to check the 4WD control module.
I did notice that the transfer case gasket looks kinda funky, maybe the previous owner messed around with something there?
I'm planning on taking it to the Ford Dealership for 4x4 diagnostic on Tuesday but I wanted to know are there specific questions I should ask...as in I don't want the "you need a few transfer case" answer.
2) I have the extended mirrors with a missing plastic cap that attaches at the car. Do they make an aftermarket version that fits or do I need to get this from the dealer (picture link included)

3) I am interested in installing an audio system in the car. Where is the best place to drill a hole for the sub-power wire to slide through? Or is there already a hole somewhere where I can just push the wire through. Pictures would be great!
4) The tailgate that came with the truck is the older model and doesn't say SuperDuty on the back. I'm looking for one that does. My friend has an 02' F250 and his says it, is there a specific year when they started it? Are they all interchangeable? I'm looking a black one if anyone has one for sale/trade + cash. Or would you guys know a website where I could order one from and not pay dealer prices.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike
2) A junkyard will have the piece you need or just use a dealership.
3) There are rubber grommets under the carpet in the front and back areas of the truck. 10 minutes and a screwdriver to remove panels. You'll see them. Just run the wire through the appropriate grommet.
4) The "superduty" stamped tailgate started production in '08. I believe it can be installed on older trucks by switching the hinge and latch brackets.
