I recently purchased an older (1981) Scamper motor home with a ford 460 engine and Auto trans. I then replaced all the gaskets and seals(almost). The valve cover gaskets the oil pan and rear seal.
I am assuming I had to replace all this because this vehicle was stored for long periods(several years). And they dried up.
I don't want to have replace these things again so I plan to start it up every once in awhile. It's going into storage for the winter in a couple of weeks.
My question is what time frame should I start it up and let her run. I was thinking about once a month. What do you think?
Take it for a drive as well. This will get the motor, rear end, tranny lubricants, if applicable, moving as well, so there wont be any rust spots or dried out seals forming on the other drive train components.
As well as the clutch & brakes; when I repalced the clutch on my 1981 F350 it was obvious it
had gotten wet and then sat for a LONG time, the flywheel was corroded & pitted where the
clutch material had trapped water against it.
