i've got a 97 f-350 powerstroke and want to get rid of the stock air box but dont want to pay 300 or 400 dollars for a K&N or any other performance intake system. any suggestions for the best way to make my own or some where i can get a good one with out using two weeks pay?
is that the stock air hose? and what all did it take to build yuor system?
Yes, it's the stock air hose. First I purchased the 6637 filter from Napa for $37.50, but that was with a fleet discount. The tube I found at a truck stop shop and I think it was $30. It is 4" OD and I had to cut about 6" off each end. Some have used PVC on here from places such as Home Depot. The constant tension clamp cost me about $5.00. Everything else you see is stock.
I looked on E-bay and found a modded exhaust pipe that was bent to fit and came with an AEM 12" filter with boots for I think 100 bucks (it's been two years...) I will try to post a picture but I am not sure if I am allowed yet lol... PM me an E-mail address and I will e-mail it to you and making one shouldn't be to difficult...
I am sending the pics for you now I need to get one to show you the solid mount for my intake my buddy has the same truck and his intake has to mount directly to his turbo via a rubber boot... My intake mounts to a cast tube that is bolted to my valve cover and then that is connected to my turbo via a factory boot...
Welcome to FTE. The reason we use a PM and don't share our email address on open forums like this is because there are computer programs out there that do nothing but scan the internet looking for a link to an email address and then it signs you up for all sorts of junk email. If you go back to your post where you shared your email address, and there is a button near the bottom that says "edit". Hit the edit button and erase your email address to save yourself the grief.
thanks chris. and thanks for all the suggestions on the intake. i'm looking at getting a custom tuned chip. the three i've looked at are a TS, a DPP, and a DP tuner. any suggestions or people i can talk to about them???
