I have one question, what would cause the fuel pressure in '88 supercab-2.9 to be way too high.Whenever I pop the gas cap to fill up there's enough built up that it wants to launch.I've never had this issue before with my other trucks and it just seems strange.
My first guess would be some sort of clog in the return line.
Have you checked the pressure at the fuel rail? Something like 44psi (your manual should have the exact psi). This should tell you at least some about how your system is working.
I took the truck in awhile back from what i thought was a fuel delivery problem-poor idle ,rough running, etc and turned out to be bad grounds.Took care of the problem.I know the mechanic so he wasn't gonna BS me,he checked the codes, fuel pressure, etc, everything checked out fine.I have a locking gas cap and usually use 89 or 91.I've used locking gas caps on my other trucks without any problem.I ran a can of seafoam through the system, but other than that i don't know what the problem is.
If not, did the overpressure problem come about after you installed the afermarket cap????
Is the vapor recovery system performing ok????
E-10 fuel has been known to cause some problems, so does your fuel contain 10% Ethanol????
Ford doesn't recommend using higher than the specified octane, as our engines aren't designed, nor timed to make proper use of it & over time it can cause engine deposits & driveability problems.
