Can I remove the converters from my 86 with the efi 302 and retain the fuel injection without interfering with the computer or anything else? I don't want to set any codes. I don't think it should be a problem as there's no O2 sensor after the cat but I want to be sure. Thanks
Ok thanks. As of next year I won't have to worry about inspections anymore (over 25) so as long as the truck doesn't know it's missing a true dual setup will be in the works with no cats.

I guess you are going to run antique tags? That's ok until you get caught not going to a show, parade, or the repair shop. They are starting to crack down on antique tag holders in my area too.
Alot of states are using this as supplemental income, issuing $100 tickets for this. If you read the laws, they do say for maintenance and charging your battery does that. Carry a timing light with you and say you're checking it.
Most states with emissions end when the vehicle hits 25 yrs old, even with regular plates. In WA they test every other year and mine just squeaked by last year and they're no more.

I have always just taken them off and hollowed them out with a steel rod. You can also weld a tube in them sometimes if you don't like the resonance.
If you had to go back to the inspector for it next year I would have suggested welding up a pipe with flanges to replace the cat 364 days out of the year and put it back in for inspection purposes. I had an offroad H pipe on my old 5.0 Mustang, and I would replace it with the stock one just for the occasion
