Welcome home Gregg, I'm sure it was some journey. That was alot of miles. I was starting to worry about ya.
Get a good night sleep and tell us all about it in the morning.
Thanks Frank... It was quite a trip.. a lil over 1900 miles..but it was well worth it.. I just wish I didn't have to rush down & back so quick.. I wish I had planned some more time into the trip but unfortunately.. its back to work tomorrow..
But I can honestly say.. it was worth the drive though.. Everyone at BTS was incredible.. I got there a little after 8 & my tranny & stock cooler was out by 9. I was surprised to see the discolorization on the TC from the high heat. But even more to my surprise, the conditions of things inside shocked me ( i'll post pics this weekend) My coast clutch problem was exactly what Brian said on the phone.. the snap ring let loose & the rubber o-ring tore.. there also wasn't much clutch material left at all.. one was completely worn through on the edge as was the clutch material in my OD.
I think hands down, the best part of the trip was talking to Brian.. Him showing me the differences between the parts that came out & the parts he put in really made sense. If you can make the drive to Lead Hill for a rebuild.. I HIGHLY recommend it.. it is a GREAT experience..
The only thing I have to do is get my DP Tuner reprogrammed.. The 1-2 shift is a little harsh, but Brian thinks once the line pressures are dropped in the tuning I should be ok.. The only other thing that needs changed is when it downshifts at 45 mph. its pretty harsh right now.. I'm going to see if I can have that eliminated & hopefully i'll be good to go
On the unfortunate side.. I knew my TC was rattling prior to my build, but i also had a "knock" kind of noise which was especially more noticeable at higher speeds while driving & I assumed it was TC related.. Sadly, it wasn't.. I still had the same noise on the way home. I'm going to have to dig a little deeper because I just wanted to get home.. I was originally thinking it may have been in my drivetrain. Driving 60-75 mph in traffic is not the easiest time to diagnose a noise & between the WW, no muffler & the 6637 its even tougher.. From what I can gather.. I don't notice the noise at idle, or when I raise the RPM's sitting still really. I mostly notice it at higher speeds when my foot is on the accelerator.. if I let off the pedal, it seems to stop. I also tried kicking it out of OD going up a hill, to kick up the RPM's & it the knock seemed to "speed" up. I thought it was safe to rule out drivetrain because if I would kick it into neutral going downhill & there was no sign of any knock.
Overall, it seemed to run ok & pulled hills with no issue.. but it seemed like it may have had a little bit of a miss or "surge" coming home.. I've got about 10,000 miles on the fuel filter.. just changed oil prior to the trip & did 1 side of the UVCH "50 cent" mod last winter. I also have my last 2 samples to be sent out for Blackstone reports to see if that will tell me anything I've done a little reading about injector knock but not much & i'm so tired right now.. I can't really comprehend anything..lol I just hope its nothing serious.. cause after spending the $$$ for a BTS & now the motor goes i'll be forced to Sad to say... the thrill of a ride home with a new BTS was sickened by a small fear that I have something going on internally with my motor or something.
Oh well, to be continued tommorrow.. I need to go get some
Congrats on the new transmission! Glad you made it home. If you go down a hill and the injectors shut off do you still hear a knock?. That would tell you which way to look. I would start a new thread if you think it might be a problem.
Congrats Gregg. Sorry about you having a problem with the engine, but like said, start a new thread when you get the time.
How did you like the way Brian start taking parts out of the old trans and throwing them away. He put all new parts in mine. He sure knows this trans. I had to go back to Jody to get my tunes redone. Jody can fix the down shifting to your liking. I wouldn't change one thing with my truck right now.
Thanks Rick. It was just amazing to watch them do the rebuild. We talked a lot about the parts he puts in & why he does what he does.. I learned so much from talking to him. he explained stuff to me that I never thought about & and everything made perfect sense. He's a great guy & their customer service is top notch. And lunch at The Cove.. mmmmmm I do believe thats the best reuben sandwich I have ever eaten...

After you have driven your truck a week or so, note the shifts points and the rpms. If you want them changed (hardness/soft/times), then call Brian at BTS and talk to him about it. As you know the Adjustment warrnety is for 2 years (life on the trans). He may be able to send you a different shift plate. He told me that there were "thousands" of possiable adjustments of a trans.... When we went for a test drive (Superchip installed) I questioned the hardness of the shifting and where it was shifting.... he said, " I know just what you want.." We went back to the shop and he dropped the pan and changed out the shift plate to another one. We were out test driving again and it was 'spot on' where "I" wanted it to be...

The main thing I learned while there is, I would never let anyone else build my trans but Brian. I'm sure you know the reasons why I say this.

Yeah, we actually went for 2 test rides. He said he could tell there was boosted line pressure & told me to get my chip reburned to stock PMT1 tunes for the tranny & see how it shifted then. He said he built my tranny for the 80 tune , which is what i use most of the time & he felt confidant it will be nice & crisp after that, but if it wasn't to my liking he would send me a shift plate to change what I didn't like.

I have asked before and have not gotten an answer, but when 'posting' and using a 'quote' from someone else, I use the 'quote' button (third from right side, above). and that will put 'quotes' around the pulled forward 'qoute'. How am I able the get the 'arrow' 'in the qoute' to be able to make it go back to that 'qouted posted'? Am I making an sense?
Thanks

Most of what you said.... (stock PMT1/ for the 80 tune...) I haven't a clue on what that meants.... All I need to know is that if I do want to get 'tuned up' higher than my Superchip, I can go to BTS and they will help me out. No questions asked and no warrenties voided....

I just hit the quote button on the lower right side of your post and scroll to the bottom of your post and start typing. And the > is there. lol

I'm not following what you mean. You can use the "quote" button or the "multi quote" button which is to the right of the quote button.. if you want to use 2 (or more)different quotes.. You hit multiquote on the 1st on & then quote on the 2nd one. if you want to make changes , delete or hi-light part of that quote you can just left click with your mouse on that part in the window & drag it to hi-light what you want to delete or change.. Is that what you mean?

I'm no expert on the PCM's, but from what I have learned through issues I had before, the PCM's have different characteristics put into them thru programming I think... different shift points & stuff like that. My truck has a PMT1 PCM in it. Thru the DP Tuner, they change some stuff .. like the 80 economy tune adds more HP & also makes it shift quicker so your RPMS aren't running so hi, resulting in better fuel economy ( If I understand it correctly) But I think they also increase tranny line pressures electronically to help in the shifting. The problem now is Brian increased the line pressures also over what the stock tranny had, but he did it thru valve bodies to what he wanted.. So his increase in line pressure and the line pressure increase by DP is making for abrupt shifts. my 1-2 shift is a little harder right now than it should be & when slowing down.. my DP commands the tranny to downshift at 45 mph when slowing down & now it downshifts HARD.. Brians suggestion was to send it back to get it re programmed so the settings were for stock shifts as the Ford PMT1 codes commands & let his tranny do what he built it to do. So basicaly in a nutshell.. the DP adds the Horsepower & the BTS decides how to handle it

I see what you mean. I usually 'copy-n-paste' and then add the 'qoute' marks (from the third right of the choices) after I paste it in.
thank-you

Brian wanted my SuperChip installed when he rebuilt my tranny.
