Lifter/Rocker Noises
I just installed a new head with everything to spec. all rods and arms went into the same postions, assembly lubed, and was toqued to 20 ft #s, Specs call for 17 to 23 ft #s, so I went safely with 20ft#s. After about 150 miles of driving and several on and off (turn off engine and start ups) all on a sudden I get what sounds like lifters knocking badly. Turn off engine then restart... It goes away. Oil presure is normal during noisy time. It idles and runs smooth as babies bottom when noise is not there. Any suggestions or ideas? Something is just not right!
Thank you,
MSK
Did you use break in oil if you used new lifters? I know the cam is not new, but I just take that precaution if I change the lifters.
Maybe some bit of muck got in the oil during the work, and clogged one of the lifters? If valves, springs, rockers all look good and correctly adjusted, then I would go to the lifters. I often use a piece of hose from ear to engine to locate the noise.
Good luck.
I took the v. cover off and check everything; I did find some "muck"! I took apart everything; Cleaned; Readjusted the valves & torqued the rocker bolts. I did use break in oil now both times. For now its running smooth again! I'm going to change oil just because of the "muck". (less than 150 miles on this oil)
Thank you again!!
