Ok, as a few of you may know from all the help I have received on this forum, my Father left me his 77' F100. I have been trying to get it in the best running order I can before it gets a new, shiny coat(s) of paint. I now have replaced the gas tank, rebuilt the carburetor, replaced all the ignition goodies and put new tires and rims on it. Let me tell you, my Father surprised me a little. When I got everything on and started the old girl up, it had a very nice lobe to it. He had had the engine rebuilt about a year before he passed away but was unable to drive it much afterwards. I had no idea the engine had been rebuilt other than stock. Long story a little shorter, the exhaust is the last thing to replace before painting.
I bought a set of hedman headers to replace the stock manifolds that look like a solid piece of rust. I also noticed the mufflers have holes all in them which surprises me because the rest of the truck is nearly rust free. I am going to replace the whole exhaust system. Dad already had true duals put in with two Cats and two mufflers going to the rear bumper. My question is this, I would like 2.25 inch piping and a pair of mufflers that will be very deep sounding but also very smooth through the power band. I really don't like a loud truck at all (neither would my neighborhood). Smooth is what I am after but I still would not want my Dad's truck to sound like a "Nancy". Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I read about 20 threads in the search section and just wanted a current opinion. Thanks guys for helping me get this far. When I get her done (did I just say that?), I will post pics from start to finish. Wish me luck.
I'd say Magnaflow, the muffler line from Cherry Bomb or Hooker Aerochambers will be your best bet. If you wanna sound like everyone else and pay out the nose for an inferior product, go with Flowmaster.
i like the flowtech raptor mufflers they only run about 20 bucks at orielly auto parts and they sound good...give it a good rumble on start up and when you dig into it and they quieten down for cruizin.
I prefer Magnaflow. Ive got a dual in/out on my 93 cougar with a 3.8 in it. It sounds like the 4.6 with the magnaflow. It will give your truck a deeper tone to it. It will sound great
I have decided to go with Magnaflows. I will let you guys know how they sound on my little 302. Seems small compared to most of the powerhouses on here. Thanks for all the input.
