Question thunder jet?

Anyone put one of these 429's in a dent? Or are they not very good engines?

Lots of them out there. They're just a destroked 460 so just as good. I have one on the floor of my garage that was going to go in my truck but I ended up finding a low mile 460 that's going to take it's place.

I think a D0VE headed engine is a Super cobra jet engine? the others were avalible until 97 in a F700 with EFI. As was said unless with the SCJ heads, the engine is a destroked 460. those heads are SWEET! but rare.

Nope.

The 429 CJ/SCJ head was Part #D0OE-6090-R

You are correct, I was mistaken. but the D0ve heads are better than the head on the newer engines.
The D0VE-A block is known as the "thick web" block and was used for CJ's as well as standard passenger cars. It is a desirable block.

The D0VE-C heads are standard "N" code heads with the smaller ports and valves. They are still a desirable early model cyl. head as they feature smaller combustion chambers and factory screw-in studs.

The CJ/SCJ heads will have casting numbers D0OE-R, and have much larger ports and valves as well as the smaller combustion chambers and screw-in studs that the D0VE's have.

They also made a D0VE-A head witch wa very similar to the D0VE-c head. the "0" means it is a 1970 casting.

I agree with you 110% and I'm certainly no guru about the 385 series engines. The DOVE head is a very nice factory piece and will provide some great performance numbers.

Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree at all with you. The CJ/SCJ head part number is one of the few "for sure" part numbers I know!

I apprenticed under a guy who had (well, still has) a '71 429SCJ Mustang and it is a strong running car and has the correct heads.
And I'm not saying how long ago I was an apprentice, we'll just say I've been through a whole bunch of calendars since!
