Diablo or Superchip?

I have a 2000 F250 SD SC w/ 5.4L Shortbed. I use my truck almost exclusively for unloaded driving (lots of highway miles to the beach) where I tow my boat back and forth to the dock every other weekend or so (20 miles each way).

I have lurked on this and other sites for quite a long time and have read everything I can concerning Chips for my truck. The resources here and on other sites are excellent. Ken Payne does an awesome job here.

I have decided on a single program, plug-in chip

My question is very simple: Other than the Diablo chip literature stating that the chip is tuned "aggressive" as opposed to "less aggressive" for the SuperChip, what, if any, is the real world difference in the two products?

Again, single program plug-in chip...

Thanks for any input to help me decide which product to go with....

Diablo or Superchip?

When possible we use a 4 bank tune with Diablo chips. This gets around reflash issues. Some will tell you that's not important.... tell that to the customer who has to send their chip back because their dealer didn't label a reflash.

My experience is that Diablo has a better shift pattern. There isn't much of a firmness difference when cruising through the neighborhood at 25 mph, but you'll know its there the more throttle you give it. Superchips tends to be a firm shift all the time.

Also, with Superchips if you need any tweak, say tire size or gear ratio: cha-ching!

With Diablo, such a change is often free (but not always). Customs get done in 2-4 days rather than 2 weeks. And if you do pay a custom fee its half as much and you do pay for each change every time (with Superchips, cha-ching every time).

More and more Superchips is going the route of off the shelf applications. They want the retailer market and are no longer concerned with being the top-dog with performance, or so that's what they told me last summer.

I program a lot of both. I've driven both in lots of applications. Not that I don't like Superchips, they are fine products but I keep a Diablo under the hood.

Diablo or Superchip?

With the Diablo 2-stage chip, what is involved in switching from performance mode to stock and back?

Diablo or Superchip?

You have to turn off the ignition and flip the switch (has a 5 foot cable). If you get a three stage chip you can switch between performance stages on the fly without turning off the vehicle.

Thanks for the order. You called before I could even read the reply. It was good talking to you and it really made my day hearing your positive remarks. You should have it soon. Let me know if I can be of further service.
