I have a 1999 F-250 with the V-10. I am the 2nd owner, purchased at 91K. Records show the motor was replaced under warranty at 43K. The truck receives intermittent use (parked for weeks then driven for 1500-2000 miles).
On my last trip, the trailer I was pulling shorted out the tail lights. Used the hazards to get home. Next morning when I started the truck, the check engine light came on, the exhaust sounded puny and truck had no power. My mechanic originally thought I it was bad fuel, so he drained & cleaned the tank, replaced the fuel & replaced the spark plugs. No change in operation. He has checked everything he knows to no avail. He is taking it to a Ford dealer to see what they can find.
This is not the first 1999 F-250 with the V10 he has encountered with this problem. He never found the issue with the other vehicle. The owner of it sold it unrepaired.
I am open to any suggestions as to what could be wrong and how we can diagnois & fix it.

On the serious note, if the CEL is on, the first thing is to read the codes.
Sounds like your mechanic is not really mechanic?
Get the codes and come back here.

Reason: We do not do this to new members, and you have to stop infecting other threads with this nonsense.
If your "mechanic" didn't read the codes and come up with a solution, get a new mechanic as has already been said. If he doesn't even have a scanner, RUN.
You need to pull the codes, and get back to us with them, before anyone can make any sort of diagnosis.
Sounds to me like you need to check fuel pressure, clean the MAF, and do some real datalogging to see if the MAF is registering air flow.
It MIGHT be a catalytic converter that melted, but that wouldn't throw a code. Get the codes read!
Second note is that trailer lights have factory installed separate fuses, therefore they can NOT shorten truck lights if hooked up properly. At least that is what I understand from OP.
Something is badly wrong with this truck.
Truck is now at the dealership. So far we know there is nothing wrong with the catalytic converter or the O2 sensor. Fuel system was cleaned because it was originally believed to be bad gas. Hopefully I will have additional information next week. If the dealership doesn't have any news by Wednesday, I will be picking up the truck and trailering it home with my Chevy.
Since I am the 2nd owner and the first owner installed a fifth wheel hitch that was removed by his son upon his death, I am not sure the wiring has not be compromised.

That is correct. They are 3 amp fuses under the hood. The previous owner of the OP's truck may have hooked into the wires going to the truck lights though, which could cause the lights to short out.
A good mechanic can just listen to a motor and usally tell whats wrong. Some of thease new mechanics are lost with out a code reader.
For instance how many times have you gone to the Auto parts store for a simple part and they cant find it on the computor. If its not on the computor they have no idea what your talking about!
How about a Sun Scope? How many mechanics still no how to use a Sun Scope?
Computorized wheel alingments! You dont need no computor todo a wheel alingment. All you need is a tape measure and a bubble level.
The dealership says the computer is bad, needs to be replaced and programmed. For some reason it was not sending any signal to Bank A. We shall see if this is the issue. I can say that my opinion of Ford products has diminished with this vehicle. Motor replaced at 40K & now computer replacement at 110K.

Without knowing the maintenance history or why the first engine had to replaced, I wouldn't be so quick to judge it. It may have been something due to shop error(changing oil but forgetting to put oil back in, which happened to a guy on here) or something the previous owner did(blow it up by modding it and then replacing the stock parts and blaming Ford, which also happened to a guy on here).
It will also be interesting to see if that new computer was really the issue.
The "shorted trailer lights" leads me to believe something electrical happened, and who knows, the power to one bank of injectors/cops could be out and that's why there's no "signal" getting to that bank.

Don't blame the vehicle for slipshod maintenance practices.

Now you tell how ford cause you wish you stick to CHEVY.
This is why you shouldn't have bought "USED" truck. You know that lot people would beat **** out then sell to sucker who think owner baby that truck.
You want know why engine replaced at 43K miles? It could be owner HOT ROD or not change oil or beat up **** out.
My 95 F250 only have 70K miles with 5K miles on new engine. Owner beat **** out it.
I bought F250 with over 200K miles I am very happy it work fine expect #3 fuel pumps.
It seems bad computers are a way of life for this model of the V10. The dealership cannot get a new computer. I have found several used units, but worry that I am purchasing the same problem.
As for the maintenance, the prior owner kept a log, which is with the vehicle. I know of every fuel up, oil change, tire rotation & replacement and all work done on the vehicle. But the vehicle is 800 miles from me, so the log is not available to me.
My research has shown components within the computers were changed for 2000 due to quality issues. The question I will put out there is can I install a computer for the 2000-2004 model on the 1999 model. The part number on the current unit is XC3F-12A650-AYB.
