will this wheel/tire cause problems

I am looking at some 17" x 9" wheels with 5" basckspace, +2mm offset.

I want to run 285/70/17 Kumho Road Ventures.

Ex is all stock now, with plans to go with 22210 front springs, but not sure when.

So, rubbing issues?

Somewhere near you is a tire/wheel shop that has all the info. Best bet is to go there, shop them out, and see what the best advice is (I have no FREAKING idea what your clearances are - I've only had one truck so far with the original axle; maybe two).

"TANSTAAFL" There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free lunch

Best way is to go and look at the options, there is no substitute for footwork, because over the I-NET line it can look one way, but "OOPS!" is very expensive...

However - don't stick yourself with just ONE opinion, get a couple of shops to look at what you want to do and how to do it, so that you get a good idea of the options all the way around. Be sure to check out any examples they have already done

When you find a shop you are comfortable with that knows what they are doing - BUY from them.

Yeah, pretty comfortable with the I don't know answer.

Also, very appreciative of the go ask someone else response.

But there are quite a few owners here who have done enough research, test fitting, etc. who have first hand experience.

Maybe one of those will chime in as well.

That opinion would be greatly more valued to me than a bunch of guys holding their schwanzes at the local Discount Tire, etc.

Signed, Grumpy

Your Excursion front suspension is essentially the same as the Super Duty. That said...

I have 17x8.5 wheels with 4.5" backspacing. 35x12.5x17 BFG MTs. They rub on the passenger spring on full lock turns. I would think that 5" of backspacing is going to be too much and that you will rub all the time. Might look for less backspacing.

Thanks 89LX306, I thought 4.5 was the magic number, but wasn't sure.

I appreciate it.

I agree with the each truck is different approach, but I think you can go and look around the truck and get an idea.

That tire is ~32.75" x 11.25", which is about the same as a 285/75R16 I ran on a stock Ex rim with dead dead dead springs. No rubbing that i even felt.

What scares me on your specs is the heavy positive offset on the new rim. thats going to tuck the tire deeper into the wheel well.

Bbefore I did mine, I looked at the tire at full turn each side to see if I would rub springs, knuckles, fenders, etc. Basically imagined the tire sitting there will the extra width and height. Its not perfect, but will alert you to the warning spots. You need to keep in mind that your tire "center" will be about 3/4" further inside the fender (if I have my math right..... 4.5" to center on 9" rim, but you are looking at 5" BS).

Even after that, i had them test fit and make sure things looked good, which most shops will do on the front first to make sure.

Good luck.
