Drivetrain Swap
I recently purchased a 1992 F-150 ext. cab 2wd, 351W E4OD. I purchased it to upgrade my 1981 F-150 reg cab 4wd 351M NP435 NP208 as i need a vehicle with more than 2 seats (have buckets and console in it). I am going to swap in my trans/t-case and 9"/D44 to make it a 4wd. My one and only issue with this is the speedo/ABS. The speedo runs off of the VSS in the rear diff. I belive my 81 has a gear driven cable type on the tail shaft of the t-case (could be wrong on the location).
Anyways, does anyone know of any conversion kit or sensor to screw into my existing speedo gear to make the ABS/speedo work? I have no problems with disassembling the tail shaft and putting on a tone wheel and a magnetic sensor, but don't know where to look for this sort of thing.
Thanks for any help!
I called a transmission shop that we deal with here and he said that there is a VSS to fit in the NP208 with both cable and electrical connections. I would just have to check the output on the electrical side of it to see if the pattern/frequency matches that of the VSS in the 8.8... The one that might fit in the 208 is used for the cruise control systems in the early 80s pickups.
Anyone have any input into that?
