Ok, I just removed the CCV metal housing on the intake. Connected a 3" abs pipe to the orange hose to the turbo and tightened clamp. Connected the leak detector to the other end of the abs and clamped down. Started blowing air in and the f****** thing blew apart...ARGH!!! Reconnected and clamped as hard as the connectors would and tried again.

Got some pressure to register blowing in at 90 psi, but it is now coming out the two holes in the drivers side valve cover where the ccv housing connects.

So, what is this telling me? What have all you other folks done to get pressure, or does my truck have a serious internal problem?

Thanks,
Terry.

90 is way to much pressure. You should stay under30

I didn't get it to actually register above 5 psi, and only for about 5 seconds if I quite blowing air in...the 90 psi was just to see if I could get some pressure to check the plenums, etc. The air just keeps leaking out as fast as I can put it in. when I had the hose dialed down to 40 PSI it leaks as fast as it goes in.

Thanks,
Terry.

This is quite a situation you have here. you should be able to find your boost leaks even if it's not holding pressure. spray your spots and then add air, spray another spot, add air... If the truck runs OK, I wouldn't worry about your bottom end having problems. Your obviously getting air going into the crankcase somehow. So you have intake valves open and the air is going past the rings. no big deal. If the truck doesn't have a ton of blowby then i wouldn't be worried about it. I didn't notice any pressure at the dipstick or CCV when i did mine, but i wasn't using that much pressure nor did i really look at those 2 spots..

Question

Well that happens also to my truck, when I make the leak test (before the IC installation) the air just keeps leaking out as fast as I can put it in (about 20 psi), and I coldnt find any leak (well in fact I didnt test the dipstick). I have the CCV mod and the truck runs fine

Travis, I hope you are right. Mine doesnt have blowby. But in great altitude and climbing hills with a TT, seems that I have a loose of power and higth EGTs (thats the reason I installed the IC), but I really supect that the culprit is a bad MAP sensor. IDK. I forgot to mention that I have never have good MPG.

Hi all...thanks for the input...just got back from trying to catch flatheads on the Colorado river...hotter than s***. Had to take the car since the truck is stilling having same problems. The real sucky part was taking the car on a "soft" road, read this as 'SAND" and got so stuck in the backwater area it wasn't even funny!

110F and completely barren! AAA got the tow guy out, but they only cover your vehicle if your are no more than "100 feet of a paved road." My son and I just sat under a tree and "pretended to cat 'dry' flatheads" since that is about as good as it was the whole time...at least for flatheads. Talking about missing the 4X4!!! 3 hours later we were back in business.

Will continue to try to find out what my problem is, however don't want to try changing out a MAP unless pretty sure that is the problem? But, Autozone has one for a hundred and change online...but it is a duralast?

Looking prior to leaving last weekend, didn't see any soot around any of the exhaust on either side of the pipes, firewall, etc...everything looks tight. Not sure what to do until I can figure out if I have a boost leak.

Thanks for all the help, and appreciate additional suggestions.

Terry.

Never found problem really

Hey supercab,

Never really found problem completely and haven't had it on the hills in the heat to see about the power and temps. Had Brian at BTS reburn my chip to correct the problem with TSP programs and my added mods. I really like the chip, much cleaner response, less overall smoke (EXCEPT FOR THE SMOKE SETTING :-) ). Everything with the map checks out, replaced the hose to the VC. Will probably replace the hump hoses later this spring/summer. Traveling back to the CO river over spring break with my son so will see how it handles in a little higher heat and inclines.

I am really hoping that the chip reburn will correct most issues I was having. Also plan to gut the EBPV when I get some time.

Cheers,
Terry.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried to run a boost leak test on my 2002 this afternoon and had the same problem with air coming out the dipstick. I found another thread that pointed out I should have attached the test cap down stream of the CCV coupler. I'll try that as soon as it stops raining.

Connected to turbo also

I tried also connecting directly to the turbo intake to eliminate the CCV completely but same problem. Once the thing blew off...lucky no one got hit...would have caused a good shiner. If I do it again I will try turning the engine a little by wrench to insure I don't have a valve that is letting out the air.

Let me know if you have success and what you did to make it work...it realy would be good to be able to test the boost.

Oh, I also did install a boost gauge since and this will help me see what is going on under load. Currently ony getting numbers on accelaration and very low if anything just driving.

Cheers,
Terry.

So you just recently installed a boost guage? From what I understand no boost well cruising is just fine, it's kinda a good way to controll your mpgs, no fuel no boost, so the less boost you are pushing the better mpgs you will get, when I installed my boost guage before my chip I was getting 2-4 lbs crusing at 60 or so, when I got on it I would see an easy 12-15, after chip install I still see 2-4 at 60 but up to 20 wot, so what are your boost numbers when you get on the throttle now that you have the boost guage? Do you have any flutter in the guage? Do you have any flutter in the guage?
