Same old question again
many times but I need advice. Have a 1968 F-100 with a very
tired 240 straight 6 and a c-4 transmission, it's a long bed so
it has the 2 piece drive shaft. I want to make it a daily driver
that is comfortable and can handle highway speeds better
than it does now, what's the best way to proceed? Rebuild
what I have now, swap the engine and or transmission? What
is the easiest switch to do? I have a chance at a nice 302 and a c-6
but will it bolt up? I'm open to a standard as well, How much trouble
am I in for? Thanks for any advice. Ron
I pulled my 240 and dropped in a 302. They both have the same bellhousing bolt pattern, so either tranny will work. The C6 might be longer, so you might would have to get the driveshaft cut to work. Also, to drop in a SBF, you need the engine perches that bolt to the crossmember. Things to think about, you will need to either get a different radiator, cause the inlet side of the radiator is on the other side. You will have to fab up some throttle linkage, and exhaust. Let me know if you need more information or pics.
