no start?
buddy has an 02 with no mods if the truck sits for a day it will not start without some ether. but if its plugged in it will start or if he drives it everyday it starts fine. the injectors sound awful noisy when it starts. he did replace the gpr. no acess to ae, and no codes flashing. any ideas?

I think glow plugs as well. The higher the altitude the more important it becomes to have properly operating glow plugs.
If I leave my truck parked for a couple of days, it still starts fine here in the valley (1500 ft altitude).
If I do the same thing while camping up in the mountains (7500 ft altitude) the truck will not start unless plugged in.
I have 8 new glow plugs sitting on my tool box in the garage just waiting for some action.

My original motor did that before it died. When I pulled the HPOP off of it after it was out of the engine, there was very little oil in the reservoir. I do not know if that was the problem, but he might take a look at the oil level in the reservoir before he starts it after it has sat a couple of days. Other than that, I would check the voltage while cranking. If the batteries are getting weak, then sitting a couple of days might cause them to leak down enough not to have enough starting voltage unless the engine was warm and did not take as much to turn the engine over. He might also try allowing the glow plug relay to stop energizing the glow plugs before trying to start the engine. If the batteries are weak, they might have enough juice to start the engine without the glow plugs being energized (another reason that the truck will start if it has been plugged in). Remember that the glow plugs continue being energized for a while after the WTS light goes out. If you listen closely, you can hear when it kicks off.
