Valve Stems???????
Can anybody shed any light on why their are so many variances on multi-grove valves and single groove valves on 351C/M 400 engines????? Their has to be some reason why Ford did this. When doing performance build-ups on these engines one of the first things to consider is multi-groove or single groove valves. I know the multi-groove allowed the valve to rotate more but those valves are more prone to failure. Any Ideas????????

The early version of the valve with multi grooves allow the valve to rotate. Then if I recall right they went to a single groove exhaust and still a multi groove intake. The single groove exhaust valve had a rotator to positivly rotate the valve. This being a plus with unleaded fuel. Then they went to single groove on both.
For performance alway use a single groove valve. I have seen multigroove valves wear to no grooves at all.
