water in 302 engine.
the engine looks like it had been left outside for a while(maybe a couple months) with the intake plenum off.. .anyway.. when i got it home, i pulled the plugs and found water in 3 of the cyls..so i pulled the heads..the motor turns over easy and wasn't seized.. but does have small amount of rust in the 3 cyls that were wet..they are mostly smooth except for the part of the cyl that is toward the lifter valley side of the cyl. there is a little bit of roughness....and i don't see any scoring.. anyway my question is, can i just polish/clean up the rusty areas with some fine sandpaper or something similar with the cyls facing down? or is the motor trashed? there isn't much wear on any of the cyls, in fact i can still see crosshatch in them.. the guy i got the engine from said it only had 94K on it when it was pulled.. car got t-boned..
now for the heads.. 3 of the intake ports look like they were filled with water and are now rusty.. can these be cleaned up as well? the valves are not seized..
the only other thing is when i spray oil/pb blaster into the cyls and move the pistons up/down, there is a little bit of rusty crap that the pistons leave on the cyl walls when they go down..should i keep cleaning that crud out until there isn't any more?
then i just need to get it a full gasket set, and start putting it back together..
i can't wait to hear this thing run..going to be sweet in my 82 F100..
love that 302 exhaust sound..my old 86 bronco that had an EFI 302 had a nice sound.. even with the stock exhaust system...
the mustang shorty headers don't fit on the trucks do they?
