What did you have to change? just t case mount, front axle mount, and driveshafts? What did you have to modify for the steering? and also are the frames different widths for mounting axles?
Well, I am still learning about the crewcabs, but I think the frames are the same as the highboys, so in that regard you are in luck. You have nailed down the high points of the conversion. However, I found out that the devil's in the details. Here's what I mean:
You rip out the front suspension, but couldn't unbolt the brake lines, so one gets broke off in the caliper. Off to the parts store for a caliper. Maybe should just redo the brakes? WHile you have it apart, why not put new suspension bushing in too? Oh, that transfer case is leaking. It sure would be easier to reseal it when it isn't under the truck.
major change depending on the yr of the crew frame...my 77 has a high boy frame ..my 78 has the 78/79 frame w/ the fwd and aft fuel tanks, the pwr steering set up that is not the pwr assist and the married transfer case...in my opinion go w/ the 78/79 4wd set up, easiest thing is to add the front clip to your existing frame or swap the 2wd over to a 4wd frame.......2wd steering is behind the axle.. front x member is different and transfer case mount x member along w/ front suspension as well as the steering set up to name a few things...
