I had the same problem while towing and my local ford dealership replaced my egr valve and the took care of my problem.

Tried the hot shots over the weekend. Runs a little better still stumbles though. Now it has backed up when it stumbles - starts around 60 to 65 when towing and around 70 to 75 normal. Also now when I step on it when it is stumbling it will quit as before it would just get worse and I was waiting for that bang telling me something let go.

One thing I haven't seen suggested is that you check your fuel pressure. It's possible that it could be marginally low and your pump/regulator isn't keeping up with the demand.
