Engine hesitates
I have a 92 explorer (vinX) 4.0L 4WD
the engine seems to hesitate, and sometimes has a "slight"
hickup in it running, similar to being out of time but it doesnt hickup very bad or consistantly,like a slight studder once or twice. the main problem is that the engine will gain high RPM,s and have a low speed, most times it will increase in performance as the speed gets higher. It will regain almost normal RPM/speed output.
I was told to check the fuel pressure regulator?
I have metered the injectors and listened to them via stethascope.Ok
Previouse owner replaced recently, fuel pump,fuel filter, plugs wires,crankshaft position sensor, EDIS module.
Vehicle had a intermitten starting problem noticable on inclines, EEC power relay was at fault, replaced.

Engine hesitates
92 as a precaution. Then I started having strange hesitation and stalling at lights. It was the fuel pressure regulator. Cut the old one open and found it was worn on one side only. Higher fuel flow of the new pump causes it to seat differently and stick. Only $60 and easy. Pressures read normal when when it worked. If you have tried everything else, try that. Found it by monitoring fuel pump current when I drove. Don't forget to disconnect the battery to reset the computer.
