I would like to have at least one project on my truck go right. Just one, is that too much to ask. Today was foil delete and fixing an oil line leak. Made a oil line removal tool, worked like a charm. Had purchased a "O" ring kit, the inner O ring want even come close to fitting. I might be mis-understandinghow it is supposed to work, but its just too big. During line removal I notice that the rubber on the unlocking clip is in bad shape. Things are not going right so I deside to snap lines back on and work on foil delete. OK that would be the one project that was easy. Get things put back on, crank truck, oil line lock clip on HPOP is pooring oil. I get my line tool out and rubber on lock just comes apart, both ends do this. Takes neary two hours to get line off. Finally had to remove threaded fittings with an open end wrench, inched them out. Now I have to go to the dealership and get a new line and fittings. Got to call the "O" ring guy too and see what I am not understanding.
Next week I am not doing any projects, would like to enjoy a weekend.
Its not just you.. trust me.. I feel your pain. I installed my DP Tuner last year & it took me 4 days to get my truck running again (loose wire).. Tried to fix my leaking drain valve behind the fuel filter last winter.. simple job right?? well, I missed the little ball in the valve.. ended up with diesel fuel pouring out in my garage & driveway.. 1 hour job took me all day... Now i'm having tranny issues & was doing a recommended tranny/cooler flush & ended up breaking a cooler line off & it turned into a 2 day project. I love my truck, but when these kinda things turn into MAJOR ordeals.. it really wears you down. I spent all weekend a few weeks ago doing my front brakes/hubs & I still have a tranny issue to deal with.. a leaking inner axle seal and while crawling under my truck this weekend, it appears I have a leaky UP pipe... Does it ever end?? I sure wish I could afford a new one !!!
I have never had a simple job go as planned. And I agree, sometimes the frustration is enough to make me want to buy another truck even though I really do love this one. One day I'm going to finally have enough and buy something newer. I wish that wasn't the case, but I just know it will happen eventually.
I enjoy the taking on the projects. I am learning so anything I take on is the first time. Love the truck, which makes me want to tweek it and improve it. But every time I plan on a few hours in the morning to complete a project it turns into an all day job. I am not a mechanic so I don't have every tool needed to make things easier or the expirence. It's all the little things that go wrong that makes me want to just stop and leave things has they are and if something brakes hire a mechanic. But when it is all done I get a glimmer of pride, and have saved enough money to try another project to test my patiants.

You Sir have a classic case of PMS.................(Power Stroke Modification Syndrome)..............Congrats!!!!
I enjoy working on my truck to.. Prior to owning this truck & finding FTE, I have never really done much more than brakes, minor accessory wiring & tire rotation / oil changes.. Everyone at FTE has been VERY helpful when I have gotten in a bind. The write ups, often with pics, people sending me wiring diagrams & even calls from Clay (RiffRaff) & Jim (MegaWatt) when I was having no start issues after my DP Tuner install have gone to show that this truely is a Brotherhood of GREAT guys !!! With the help of the guys (and girls) I have done & accomplished projects I would have never DREAMED of doing before & when I run into trouble, someone has always been there to get me thru it !! Except for a tranny rebuild.. I think I'll let that up to the professionals !!!
PMS, does that mean I will only have a few bad project days during the month?
Glad I have finally been diagnost and that I am not the only one with this desease. Maybe one day there will be a cure.
Death...that is the only known cure.. otherwise sit and suffer, and for every nasty experience you have had, you bandage up, and plan the next one.. it is just a sad,sad thing.. but we are here to offer our support. So grab a first aid kit, grab chair and sit down around the fire..
Clay at Riffraff seems to be a great guy, answered a lot of questions for me. Have my first gauge and a F650 dash with switches on the way from him. FTE has turned out to be one of the best forums. Hope I don't have problems this weekend, yes I am going to take on another mod. Wish me luck.
If there is on piece of wisdom that I can pass on regarding mods and fixes, it would be that patience is golden.
As most folks in todays society, I am an instant gratification kind of guy. If I can read about a mod or fix in less than 10 mins then, by gosh, thats how long its going to take to do it..... Whoa, back er down there cowboy. No matter how long you think its going to take, plan on at least another 4 hrs, that way your not dissapointed when it takes half a day.
Some of us who have been there, and done that, have a tendency to tell other folks that it CAN be done in 1hr, when in fact the first time we did that mod or fix it truely took 3 hrs. Case in point, the first time I installed cab lights was on my truck. It took about 4 hrs. The second time was on another members truck, and it only took 2.5hrs. The third time was on another members truck and we had it done in about 1.5hrs. The experience that was gained from the first two installs really helped out on the third. The knolwedge of what tools to have laying at your reach, and not having to run back into the shop and find is a huge time saver.
The frist time I removed an HPOP took a great bit of time, but after having done it a few times, I can remove and replace one in about 1hr.
Dont hire the mechanic, be the mechanic. Remember they had to learn somewhere too.
Now that was good advise. I think you were watching me run back and forth for tools. When I started this thread I was real discouraged and needed to vent. Wound up seeing the support offered here. Thanks.

Great advice! (once again)
Personally, I think the 7.3 is the easiest Power Stroke to work on. I can't imagine what it's like for the 6.0 owners right now or the 6.4 guys when their warranty runs out.
OK, I am over all that why can't things go better crapp. Dedicated a whole day to do what I wanted to the truck. Took a half day including a good wash and wax. Temps dropped about 10 degrees, think that helped too. Next is shocks, gauges, and some extra lights.
Back on my feet and ready to get things done, just at my own pace.
