how long can i run my truck on a ford tech diagnosed bad ficm it starts after a few attempts rough but runs good after a minute or two. can i hurt the injectors with about 8 more starts that is the number of times i will need to restart it until i can get it fixed
Have you tried to do the re-soldering job suggested in this forum before you turn it over to someone else? If not look in the READ FIRST - Tech Folder for details.
yes u can run it, BUT it can and most likely will leave u stranded somewhere. i tried to solder mine, my voltage had gotten down to 22v, soldered and got 45v. Worked well for week, then went south again. ... luckily it happened in my driveway
i did mine over the weekend and it was really simple. havent put it back in yet so i dont know the results.follow the tech instructions and just re-flow (melt) the solder.the only trouble i had was on the 2 little resistors, i didnt feel comfortable enough to re-flow the inside solder joints on those.theyre really close together.other thing i should add is my voltage got to 21v and i never had a problem, no signs whatsoever of it being bad.ran great.
did not have to worry about driving with bad ficm truck would not start this morning to drive to work but got the FICM replaced tonight. plus buddy also did newest flash. truck fired right up and runs smooth so no bad injectors which is a plus. so now maybe i can go a week without working on it or having to have it looked at. thanks again for all of the info everyone provides on this site.
one thing i forgot to mention when we took the old ficm off the build date on it was september 2004, which is odd since my trucks build date is 8/2003. so i guess this is the second one on it

Reason: added more
heres my results.........koeo volts are 48, buzz cycle going the lowest i saw was 44v. so i guess it helped a little. seems to fire up quicker and idle a little smoother, but it may just be wishful thinking because i never had a problem with the way it ran.
I ran mine for 4-5 month's with a bad FICM. Brought it to one dealer and they Diag as a bad turbo (Team Ford Las Vegas). They quoted me over $3k for a remanned installed. So I parked the truck for a while because I was so pissed off. This truck has been the poster child for the 6.0 problems. 2nd long long block motor, injectors, fuel issues, and all customer pay. So after the truck sitting for a few months I decided to burn another $189 bucks at a different Ford Dealer (Ford Country in Henderson Nv) and they diag it as a bad FICM. So my bill went from $3k to $1315 and a way diff diag. Had them fix it and I have ran it now for 3 weeks at 19 mpg on the hwy with 35"s.
