Starter problem....
Thanks.
PS The info on my truck is...
1966 F100
Engine: 352
Trans: 4 speed (on the floor) 435
2WD
I also gave the parts guy at checkers all the same info!
The same flywheels were also used in 1965/71 352/390 Passenger Cars.
The 3 hole FE starter is the same 1963/76 A/T or M/T = C3OZ11002C used on 1965/76 352/360/390 F100/350's / 1963/71: 352/360/390/406/410/427/428 Passenger Cars.
The starter drive (D6PZ11350A replaced C6VY11350A), the 184 tooth replaceable flywheel ring gear are also the same 1965/76.
This problem has existed for quite a while. You were prolly not informed of it by the seller, who may have been clueless, may not have been.
The teeth being worn down/chipped off the ring gear is not uncommon, ditto for the teeth of the starter drive...both occur...sooner or later, but...
IF the spacer plate is missing between the engine and the transmission...then there will be an alignment problem with the starter, starter drive and the flywheel's ring gear.
Or if the engines been swapped with something from a 1958/64 Passenger Car, that opens up a whole new can of worms. Different flywheels, starter (1958/62), starter drive and other stuff.
btw: I doubt the partsguy at Checkers knows much of anything. These so-called parts guys (with a few exceptions like FTE member AirHarley) are nothing more than ppl that can work a computer and that's about it.
These ppl have next to no experience with any old rolling piles of misery, regardless of what make it is.
Most parts for these old piles are not on computers, they are in printed parts catalogs...usually stuffed under the counter. Good luck getting the guy to actually look in one.
My BIL was the former CCO & VP of Checker. When O'Reilly's bought them out, he retired. He's the perfect candidate to work the parts counter in a chain autoparts store, because...
He knows less about vehicles, than a jackass knows about ice fishing!
