I need to bring the back of my f350 up 1". Wondering which is the better route to go, 1" adder block or 5" replacement block. Obviously they will both get me to the same place, just wondering if one is better than another. Thanks
If by "1" adder block" you mean stacking a block, then don't. Either use a solid, one piece block, or add a leaf into the pack. Don't stack lift blocks.
Well yeah, if you weld them then they won't separate. If the blocks are cast iron, then you have to be careful to preheat and control how fast they cool so the welds don't crack. I really don't know what the stock blocks are made of, you could probably just stick the pi$$ out of them and the weld would hold.
Anyone can use a Lincoln tombstone from Home Depot to make blocks, it's just normally cheaper to buy them because thick enough plate for the caps and rectangle tube with a thick enough wall will cost $$$ when you have to buy a 4x8' sheet and 20-40' length and you only need a foot. Icon makes some really nice fabricated blocks, I have a pair in the garage right now. EDIT: I take back that price estimate, I was jsut assuming everyone lives in a town with two dealers and no one else. I checked an online dealer, and you can get all the steel you'd need for about $50 to make your own, they sell 1x1' plate and 2' tube.
AAL will stiffen the ride noticeably. If you only need the 1" while towing, airbags or Timbrens will reduce squat. If you're looking for cosmetics, go with the 5" block.
Once again, thank you. I am curious though...was looking at all these companies making the 1" blocks, including Icon, and they say they are for adding that extra inch. Are they assuming that everyone is welding the blocks together. I'm not disagreeing with you as you are certainly more knowledgeable than I in this department, just wondering why everyone sells a one inch block if it is not recommended. I will more than likely go with the 5" block as I feel that is the right choice, just curious. Thanks again.
A lot of people have no issue with running stacked blocks. That being said, a lot of people also see no problem with 12" blocks or blocks under front leaf packs. It's just why bother asking to have a problem when the solution is staring you in the face.
