Glow Plugs

Just began thinking what was the next issue I need to address with the old F-350 and I have read where people are changing the glow plugs. Is this something I need to consider? I have 189000 miles on the truck, never had a hard start issue. I will be trying to do as much preventitive maintenance as I can to make this truck last as long as possible. Thanks for any and all comments.

I have 115K on my truck but I will be under the valve covers before winter to swap them out. Plus you can do the 50 cent mod with the harnesses and retorque all the rockers and injectors while you are under there.

And I want to clean and repaint my valve covers too...

Thanks Chris, I might just do it next as well. I saw where people are also changing out o-rings on the injectors. If I am under the valve cover I might have to change glow plugs, injector o-rings, and the 50 cent mod.

In Victoria, I wouldn't worry about it as a preventative item. Check them with an ohm meter. If you find a bad one(s) go ahead and replace that side. I'm still running my factory glow plugs.

Should I pull the injectors and change the o-rings when I do the 50 cent mod. I read where it smoothed out a 7.3 so it might be a good piece of preventative maintenance as well. I wasn't too concerned about the glow plugs, like you indicated it doesn't get cold down here really. I was just curious as to whether this was something I needed to be concerned with as far as maintenance goes. Thanks for the response.

Just replaced all of my glow plugs, while I was there I installed new o-rings, and I noticed a difference, a few of the o-rings did have small cracks so I'm glad I changed them.

I'd start with re-torquing the rocker arm pedestal bolts and lower injector hold down bolts and go from there. O-ring issues don't seem to have any real pattern to them.
