You know, I have a "perfectly healthy" 2005 6.0. I also own a set of ARP head studs (originally purchased for my 2003). Hmmm...
DSMMH--can this job be done in one hard weekend?
Yes!
I'm very electrical and mecahnically inclined. After 35 years of repairing nuclear submarines, the stud job was a piece of cake. Not afraid to take anything apart and put back together. I did mine in an easy two days, by myself, outside in the driveway with airtools.
In addition to the studs you will need a valve cover gasket set and a turbo R&R gasket set.
Good time to think about rebuilding the oil cooler (change the heat exchanger), blocking off the EGR flow at the up pipe and change coolant.
Maybe "Curt's05" can chime in and give you an idea how long it took him to do the job.
with 2 people on hoist & all the right tools, about 2 hrs to remove engine parts, 1/2 hr
engine/tranny mounts, 2 hrs to remove/replace head bolts with studs, we had to twist the engine to get the last 2 bolt/studs in/out! egr delete/valve gaskets, new oil cooler, change coolant/ new coolant filter, reassemble 4 hrs. 10 hrs total, saved $$$ for the
sct tuner/edge insight...
Some one mentioned fram oil filters. Fram is the absolute cheapest pos filter you can buy. I couldn't find my old cutaway pic. with about 10 different brands but this one will do for now. You can see how low quality the fram is in this pic. No other filter is as bad as a fram.
