slippery sucker

Hello everyone, Its that time of the year again and I have my eye on restoring my truck, but my problem at hand is caked on greass everywhere under the hood and under the chassis. I really need to get that crud gone, I figure a pressure washer is the best rought to go at it. have any of you overcame this hurdle? I need to know whats the lowest psi i should go with in a unit.. Thank you!

idk about psi for it but i used a pretty good car wash after letting it soak in degreaser and my trans still didn't come anywhere near clean. i ended up going at it with a wirebrush on the drill and it seemed to work quick and easy.

Grease Lightning, about three bottles of that and a rag and a hose and my engine bay and tranny were spic an span... just watch out if you rub a little too much you may end up finding out the color of primer that was used... but surprisingly its awesome

I took my truck to a little hole in the wall detail shop that services all the used car dealers in my area. They charged me $120 to clean the engine and undercarriage and the shop is approved by the EPA to properly dispose of the toxic sludge.

I didn't get dirty or make the neighbors mad at me and my once really greasy engine and filthy undercarriage is now amazingly clean. Best $120 I spent!

I've used Purple Power degreaser before, it took a couple of applications to get all the stuff off, but it looked good after just one. Spray on the purple power, let it sit and then spray it off with the water hose or pressure washer.

Used Purple Power myself. Environmentally great, easy to use. Mixed it in my garden sprayer. Used a 1300psi washer and was unimpressed. Used a 1800psi washer and was very impressed. So imho, a 1800psi is entry level and i bet a detailer would use a 2300psi or so.

Dont expect to do a single pass. Mine will likely be at least three and mine wasnt that bad. I did have a power steering leak that must have gone on about three years of limited driving. To me, my truck will be an ongoing cleaning exercise, so no biggie.

Maybe steam cleaning? I've heard it works well.

When i was in Camp for Keweit an sons.. they had this huuuuuge jebus " hotsee" incorrect spelling but it was housed inside a sea can. and wow... haha that bugger would slice threw engine wiring paint hoses etc.. but if you used the regular hot steam.. it would just pull ANY dirt grease oil anything.. off your truck. So if you can find a good pressure washer giver more the better with psi.. untill a point but you have to make sure with what your hitting ... can't really afford an " oopsie " if you get carried away.

I've been doing it the ol' fashioned way- screwdrivers and wire brushes...had the crud 3/4 inch thick in places. in fact my freeze plugs were rusted out but the crud kept the coolant from leaking!!
