I replaced all four ball joints a few weeks ago. The truck was on a little bit of a slope and some of the center differential fluid leaked out when I pulled the Drivers side axle. I thought what I had been seeing was left over from that but now it is clear from the amount I have seen in several different places it is leaking from the dust seal between the axle and the u joint. Is there a seal around the axle at the differential?
There is a special tool to install the seals but if your careful you should be fine without it. Here's what it looks like. http://quad4x4.com/images/qk4643.jpg
Can any one give me a part number for the seal around the axle at the front differential? I have looked and not sure what I need.
Should I replace both sides?
What else should I do while I am there?
As long as I do not use the 4X4 and the the hubs are not locked, will it hurt if all of the fluid runs out? (2 quarts on hand just in case)
