Angry EGR Flow Triggered Engine Light

About 3 months ago I replaced my EGR valve and pipe on my '96 4.0L when I noticed that the original valve had a hole corroded in the diaphragm. Everything was great until about a week ago and I am getting dual codes. The first is for excessive EGR flow and the second is for insufficient EGR flow. The engine idles great and I do not notice any significant loss in power.

My question is this:

Would a faulty (older than dirt) catalytic converter cause the two codes simultaneously? I ask because the check engine light had gone out. I was chasing a rattle the next day when I came across the C/C. I hit it and shortly after the light returned.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

RG

Your convertor might be shot but I doubt that is causing the EGR problem. I would bet that the PFE sensor needs to be replaced. it is a very common problem. The sensor is attached to the side of the intake manifold. Follow the 2 hoses from the tube that connects the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve.
