Question Marker lights/signal

From my understanding (pretty shaky ground some days) my 51 did not come equiped with signal lights. Has any one put dual element bulbs in the orginal marker light location? If so witch ones?

cobraii,
I did this in my 48. The swap consisted of a trip to NAPA or your other favorite auto parts store. Purchase dual contact pigtails (you'll probably have to sand off the orientation tab from the insulating disk to fit your old light socket) Then purchase a couple of dual filament bulbs - number 1176 - they have the pins located across from each other (rather than off-set like the 1157's)

Then the only trick is to make sure the contacts line up inside the housing (the disk and the bulb) as there is no orientating tab to go by on the old sockets. Hook one pigtail to the parking light wire and the other to the turn signal wire.

Pretty slick actually - have fun!

You may come out better purchasing tail lights that already has the double filament bulbs, they can be purchased round or sorta square like, they can run around $14 bucks a set.

Woo.... if I remember right, I ordered taillight wires, which were made for dual-filament bulbs. The wires came with the little doohickey that the bulb twists into, so alignment of the wires to the bulb is a no-brainer. I had to grind out the holes in the parking light buckets slightly so they'd fit, and wedge them into place and that was it. Oh, and make sure everything's grounded to the bucket or somewhere else.

I got it figgered out and I used just about everyones ideas. Here is what I did.

Stopped at the parts store bought two 1157 plain metal sockets

Took the old light apart and removed the orginal socket

Cleaned it all up And soilderd the 1157 socket into place (while being carfull to reces it to give room between bulb and lens)

Put light together and instaled (had to make holes bigger behind light to give room for the 1157 socket)

Thanks to all for helping me It works awsome

I just finished up the front running lights this weekend on my 48. The parking buckets had a pressed fit single element socket. A dual element bulb has off set tabs while a single element socket they are directly across from each other (low on the socket).

Since I want turn signal I had to convert the single element sockets to dual element. I took a hammer and knocked out the old sockets. Piece of cake!

I then bent over the extra metal where the old socket was pressed into the bucket. It formed a nice lip all the way around. I then tapped a new dual element socket into the bucket. Nice tight fit and no worries about a poor ground. It is that tight of a fit!

I then installed new double element LED bulbs. Way cool!
