I am flushing my tranny as Brian at BTS suggested. I dropped the pan & changed the filter. He also suggested blowing out the cooler. This is where the confusion occurs. I believe I have the right lines, but get confused in their path.. He said to blow into the drivers side line & flush it out the passengers side into a bottle. I can follow the one line & see right where it hooks up (on what appears to be the bottom of the radiator tank??) The other line converts into a rubber line & snakes up & disappears near the radiator. I enlosed a picture.. are these the 2 lines I need to disconnect so I can blow it out or am I looking at the wrong thing??? You are doing it right disconnect the two lines on the bottom of the radiator and blow in from the drivers and out of the passenger. Makle sure you replace what you blow out with some fresh fluid.
Thanks.. I just wasn't sure if those were the right lines or not. Why does the line disappear up alongside the radiator?? I'm almost ready to turn over 120,000 miles. Had some overheating issues after coming down a mountain with my 5th wheel last week & now I'm having slip issues & coast clutches issues ( I think) Brian suggested a good flush as a starting point.
Uggggh.. I'm telling ya.. this must be tranny "bad luck" season.. I was concerned with the rust on the ends, so I wire brushed them & sprayed them with WD40. I put a wrench on the big end to hold the fitting & a 5/8 wrench on the line end... Gave it a gentle tug & it appeared to come loose right away & fluid started dripping out. I give it another turn, only to realize that the nut indeed broke loose from the fitting in the radiator tank, but ALSO the frigging line never broke loose from the nut & the line started tearing. It was so rusted/brittle that it almost disintegrated. So, of course, this happened at 5:00 as my local ford garage closed. I called a few other parts stores & no on carries any.. finally found a ford parts dept that was open, but he didn't have the part, but referred me to another garage close by that " supposedly" did.. well of course, as I call them.. "they just closed".. Oh well, I guess Saturdays plans are screwed up now.. FML.. good thing there's beer in the fridge !!!
If those are the same as the old days they are just a flared fitting like a brake line. If you can get the correct size line at any parts store you can just bend it up to match the stocker.
Is there a trans cooler in there someplace? Just hook them two line together and just let the tranny aux cooler do its job. I wouldn't tow anything though. Once i was towing a 20foot enclosed trailer full of MX bikes in canada. That line broke were yours did. Blew oil all out the back on the nose of the trailer. What a mess.. I ended up finding a gas stop that had trans oil and i had rubber hose and hose clamps in the trailer. I made it the rest of the way home 400 + miles and the temp gauge was reading ok..The old truck had, had a aux cooler so it was still cooling..Just not through the radiator. When i got home i ordered the parts to fix it and lots of simple green to clean the trailer off.. When i went through customs at the border i had to explain what happened due to him seeing the mess on the trailer.. The guy at the gas station helped me clean up the parking lot that i did the work. They were cool and helped and it was as clean as when i pulled in.. The following week i stopped by that station and the same guy was there. So i gave him a case of beer and a set of tickets for the race, For helping me out with the mess cleanup.
When i first saw your pictures i thought "wow i hope he bought new lines. them babies aren't coming off."

The line should come out of the front pass side of the trans, go to drivers side radiator, out the pass side, into the oil to air cooler mounted between the rad and the intercooler and back to the rear pass side of the trans....I think I got that right?
Sorry about your luck with this, those fittings are almost too rusty to come apart.
be careful not to crack the radiator around those fittings.
