I have some tri-pod mirrors that I'm installing on my truck. Question is;
Do I need to have a gasket between the part of the mirror stand that is in contact with the door? If I do, should I use rubber or paper-gasket. When I removed the mirrors, I could have sworn there were no gaskets, but now I'm thinking, with metal to metal contact, the paint would get damaged and rust would set in. If I install a gasket could water get trapped behind the gasket and also cause rust. I know that this should not be such a big issue, but I want to do the job right the first time.
Thanx in advance.

I cut gaskets for mine from a roll of composite gasket material that I picked up at Advance Auto for $5. I think a gasket is better then taking a chance on the mirror mounts rubbing thru your paint. I don't think rubber gaskets would be good because after the rubber breaks down it's a pain in the a$$ getting it off.
