66 4x4, I would like to know what bushings or bearings I need to re-build it, I can hold the wheel and move it quite a bit. I was on dennis carpenters and all I seen was 4x2 or 66-71 parts. Id rather not take it apart until I find parts, local parts place was clueless.
In the process of ordering components to rebuild the column on the 65 with 4 speed and noticed in item description the lower bearing retainer needs to be welded on. Don't recall doing so with last rebuild and probaly why lower retainer is loose. Have an oxy/acel setup, curious if it can be done by self, with minimum welding skills, fiqure something I can do if only requires tacking, or suggest take it to welder.
The replacement lower bearing retainer is a replacement for the stock on which is welded to the column tube.
Typically if the bearing gets eaten up the sheet metal is also.
Garbz
Appreciate the info; ordered the components to include the retainer and know more once the column has been disassembled. After posting recalled I had to shorten the column shaft for the power steering and don't remember the condition of the retainer, definately can see it's loose. Once I can establish the retainers proper position I will take it in and have it welded. Thanks again!!!.

1965/66 F100/250 2WD. There are two lower retainers.
The part you're speaking of is C5TZ3D681A .. Steering Column Lower Bearing Retainer. This part may not need to be replaced.
There is also B1AZ3518A .. Steering Column Tube Bearing Retainer aka Sleeve. This encompasses the bearing (C3DZ3517A).
I hate to be a nag, but...if y'all had the parts catalog, you would never need to look for or ask to see a picture again.
The exploded view of entire 2WD steering column and related parts is pictured here: 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Illustration Section 35, Page 8.
Available on a CD from hipoparts.com for 22 bucks.
I know you have the catalog...Dave, cuz you borrowed my CD on 6/25/2010 (when you were here attending the Western Nats) to download it into you 'puter.
