Hey guys, I'm looking to get a brake controller for my truck and was wondering what you all recommend. I think I remember the prodigy being the one of choice but I have found 3 that go by that name, the Prodigy, the P2 and the P3. I assume that the P3 is the best of the 3 but what are the real differences.
The prodigy does a good job for me.There are a couple newer ones out fro tekonsha but don't know if the do any worth while special tricks for the added price or not
i have the P3...what makes it nice is you can see what your alternator is charging at, and see how many amps/volts your trailer is pulling. helps diagnos trailer brake problems
not much different between the other two as far as i know
draw tie activator II, nothing fancy but has been in truck 10+ years without any problems. i do not know anything about the other ones so i can not comment on them.
Any of the high end models with built-in diagnostics are worth the extra bucks, if something goes wrong. Hayes G3, Prodigy, etc. The value of seeing voltage and amps comes in real handy when something doesn't work.
I just bought one and would have picked up the prodigy, but the P3 was about 4 dollars more on Ebay with the wiring harness included so I got it instead.
Draw tite 5500 for me. It is for multiple brake axles and has adjustable controls. Same brand as my 36,000 lb gooseneck hitch. Draw tite also ownes reece hitch company.
I have had many controllers over the years and the P3 works better than anything I have ever used. Smooth breaking and unbelievable fine tuning. The diagnostics and display readings are a big plus too.
