Intake plenums/intercooler questions...

I know that most on here use the early '99 spider for their intercooler setup because it will work with the stock plenums.

My question is, will the late '99 spider bolt up to the OBS turbo or is it a different size?

Could I upgrade to the bigger intake plenums and use a late 99 spider for the intercooler or would I need the SD turbo as well (which I don't want)?

The late spyder won't bolt to your turbo. You'd need the SD turbo, pedestal, spyder, up pipes, and drivers side exhaust manifold.

would anyone like this stuff the guy i'm getting a intercooler from has all this stuff on a motor he pulled out.i could see what he wants for it?

correct. the later SD turbos have a larger compressor housing diameter where it meets the spyder.

If you upgraded to 3" plenums you will have to come up with a different y-pipe. I have heard that if you can weld aluminum you can take a SD spider and marry it to the OBS turbo connection forn an early '99. Lotta work though!

I have Beans billet aluminum 3" plenums. And I have the 3"y-pipe from Hypermax with the H2e kit I got from Beans.

There are alot of ways to do this upgrade but you must be creative as there is no "bolt on" way to do it with the stock turbo that I know of.

Ok, thanks for the info guys. Just curious and wanted to get all the info before deciding which route to go with a intercooler install.

Another option to consider is the Banks spider, you need two parts, the Twin-Ram and the compressor outlet. The parts are available from Banks individually, you don't have to buy their entire IC kit, or start looking for used parts. When I did my IC install the early 99 spiders were hard to get and expensive on ebay. Banks is very spendy as well, but it's easy bolt on and uses the stock boots and clamps at the plenums and the compressor. They fit well and don't block the oil fill, dipstick, or fuel filter access.
