Auto tranny

I was wondering about how much it would cost to get an auto tranny replaced on a 2000 f250 with 97k miles on the rebuilt tranny

Your best bet is to get a hold of Brian over at BTS trans in Ar. He has rebuilt trannys that will never go out.

Brians Truck Shop

I do not however know how much they cost

You might be able to find a shop in Indiana that installs either of them? Where at in Indiana? I was just in Lowell, outside of Chicago visiting family, I live about an hour west of BTS and my trip was roughly 10 hour drive.

The PO of my truck had a junkyard tranny installed at a local shop in Bishop CA (which is remote) back in 2007 for $3000. BTS is mucho bettero, and they will ship, even to Indiana.

Order a BTS or a John wood and have it installed locally... Or find some helpful friends and make a weekend out of installing a new trans

They (BTS or JW) are not cheap but they will last you virtually forever. Easy to install

My BTS was 4,300 , bought in the spring. Shipping cost 200 to Mid Missouri. cost to install at local garage 450.

Local garage did not blow out the cooler lines and debris got into tranny and locked the tc in....

drove it to BTS and he over haualed the tranny for Free because of the no questions asked gaurrent. (two years on adjustments, life for the tranny)

Cost of removal and install 0 ,zero, naada

while there at BTS,Brian installed a 6.0 cooler

cost for cooler 450

If you are planning on keeping and pulling with your truck, get it to BTS. The first big hit will hurt a little, but you will know that any problems down the road are coverd.

Everything is heavey duty. Brian told me that it all depends on what I will do with the truck on how often I may come back for an 'overhaul' (free). Racing and drag pulling, maybe once a year..... camper pulling (hard) 5-ten years... cruisings and family driving.... never...

I asked about putting gauages on to check the temps...

He said gauges are nice 'to look at', but with the 6.0 cooler... it will run so much cooler that there will be no issuse or worries.

This is in no way shape or form as not taking any thing away from John Woods tranns,as I have read alot about them and think highly of him, I live in Missouri and with BTS being in northern Arkansas, it is so much easier to deal with BTS

If you order one (or not) make sure that the cooler in blown out (good), cleaned (good), or replaced.

What about hauling a 6 horse aluminum trailer fully loaded with horses weighing from 800lbs-1800lbs? would that be considered in the camper pulling category? or is that more like the racing andd drag pulling?

Do your horses like to go from 0 to 60 in less than a couple of seconds? How exstreme do you take off when pulling your horses?

You notice the difference right off when pulling with a BTS. There is no 'lag' when taking off and if you are not hooked up to anything, once it is in gear the truck is moving forward and ready to go. you can feel the power and smoothness right off.

If you are thinking about getting a BTS, you should take the truck to BTS. He will gut and overhaul YOUR tranny to his specks (while you wait) and when done you take it out for a test drive and you can see if you like the 'shift points' and the 'hardness or softness' of the shifting. There is a metal plate with a bunch of holes below the valve assembly (inside) the tranny that Brian can replace with other shift plates in what he says are 'thousands' of diffent possiablilities. He wants your tuner installed if you use one to test drive. He will keep adjusting on it (outside and inside) until it is the way you want it to shift.

If you are planning on selling your truck in the next couple of years, throw in a 'rebuilt' for 2500.

If you are planning on keeping the truck until the wheels fall off....Get a BTS or John Woods.
